Second Term Deviation of the School Calendar / Afwyking van die Skoolkalender vir die Tweede Kwartaal
Parents, please remember that we applied for a change to our school calendar during April. This was necessary because of the many public and school holidays shortly after the Easter Weekend.
The financial implication for parents in bringing and taking the learners 3 times in a short period of time is a consideration when determining the out week(end) for term 2.
Therefore, the number of school holidays shortly after the Easter Weekend’s negative impact on our parents will be addressed by having one out week(end) for Term 2 from the Easter Weekend.
We then celebrate Freedom Day on Tuesday, 22nd of April with special school holidays on 23 -25 April. Consequently, our learners will return on Sunday, 27 April and we will have normal school from 28 – 30 April. We will observe Workers Day on 1 May and have school on 2 May again.
In summary the school dates for Term 2 will then be:
8 April – School reopens (hostel reopens on 7 April)
17 April – school and hostel closes for the Easter Weekend and “out week”
27 April – hostel reopens at 14h00

What is the importance of values? We have, as a society, been speaking about values quite a lot the last few years. We all have different belief systems / world views underpinning these values. I am of the opinion that this do impact on how we see these values, but in essence the values must still be over-bridging elements in our diverse society.
This term has seen a number of incidents among the learners that include bullying, stealing and fighting / assault. Now we all know these are occurrences in our wider society that negatively impact on all of our lives. Part of being an educational institution places the responsibility on us to eradicate these occurrences, but in doing so also to educate and develop the learners on generally acceptable behaviour in society.
Our value of accountability strongly comes through here. Unfortunately, we are not in a very accountable society and to instil this value with our learners are not easy. Especially due to the fact that the example our learners and children see from ourselves (staff and parents), as well as leaders and adults in the broader society, does not really support our message.
The school is currently moving towards a restorative disciplinary process where offenders / perpetrators need to take Responsibility and Accountability for their actions. This is not always an easy and speedy process, but we are convinced that the long term results for our school, the community and the society at large will be worth the effort.
Mahatma Ghandi said that to change the world you must be the change you want to see. We cannot change the world all at once, but we can change what happens within us and in our own circle of influence.
My plea is that we as school staff, parents and learners take hands to accomplish a truly accountable society where everyone can reach their optimal potential without fear of being bullied, your properties being stolen and having to protect yourself against violence.
May peace be upon you/ Vrede vir u/ Kgotso e be le wena.
